Regenerative medicine

As the name implies, treatment is based on controlling the process of destruction and regeneration of the target tissue. That is, at the desired location, growth factors  are injected to inhibit destructive factors and stimulate healing of the tissue. In the field of pain specialty Regenerative  medicine is used to control and treat osteoarthritis as well as to repair soft tissue injuries of the musculuskeletal system including muscles, ligaments, tendons and….

Regenerative  medicine procedures performed by Dr. Kazemi Pain Fellowship include:

1- Osteoarthritis treatment :

Osteoarthritis cell therapy

Osteoarthritis cell therapy

Osteoarthritis means joint wear and damage to the articular surface, followed by deformity, pain, and movement restriction in the joint. In osteoarthritis, the main problem is articular cartilage and, after a while, the bone under the cartilage may also be damaged. The causes are varied from genetic causes to overweight, age, trauma  and many disorders.

Decreased cartilage thickness, seen in radiology as a reduction in articular distance, is one of the early signs of osteoarthritis. (The above figure) The disease is mostly seen in femur, knees, fingers and shoulders. Osteoarthritis symptoms include pain, swelling, stiffness and joint deformity. You can read more about the Osteoarthritis and regenerative medicine in” osteoarthritis”and”Orthokin”articles.

Regenerative medicine by Orthokine

Interventional procedures are performed by Dr. Kazemi under the guidance of fluoroscopy or ultrasound. For osteoarthritis, procedures performed in multiple sessions. The steps to treat osteoarthritis include the following steps:

Orthokinin Injection : Orthokinin is a revolution in osteoarthritis control. In the orthokine therapy method, the patient’s own blood is taken and processed within 24 hours, which contains an antagonist (inhibitor) of the degradation factor in osteoarthritis (interleukin-1) and, on the other hand, activates restorative factors to repair the joint structure. This is done in 4-6 sessions weekly. A full description of this technique can be found in the study article.

Articular sensory nerves radiofrequency: Using radiofrequency, nerves that only transmit pain signals in joints begin targeted and blocked and after that exercise and physiotherapy starts to activitie and strengthen the joint-supporting muscle tissue.Total knee, hip (shoulder), shoulder replacement surgeries, etc. are relatively expensive surgeries with their own complications, with artificial joints having a shorter life span and decreasing in activity over time. With the above-mentioned  by interventional techniques, approximately in 70 to 80% of patients can prevent the development of osteoarthritis and joint damage and the need for joint replacement.

2- Regenerative medicine for soft tissues (muscle, tendon, ligament) and musculoskeletal system

In cases of soft tissue injury (muscle, tendon, ligament),( inflammation to tearing), injections of cell growth factors, degradation inhibitors such as orthokine, PRP and prolotherapy are performed at the affected site.
